Precision, partnership, and performance - these are the three main pillars of Multicut's contribution to the manufacturing and development of Raytheon's StormBreaker® Smart Weapon program. At Multicut, we take immense pride in our role as a key supplier for Raytheon's StormBreaker® program, delivering advanced precision components that are integral to this cutting-edge smart weapon system.

Production purpose and complexity

The StormBreaker® smart weapon, also known as the GBU-53/B, is a state-of-the-art, air-launched precision glide bomb designed to engage moving targets in all weather conditions, including low-visibility scenarios such as darkness, poor weather, smoke, and dust. This capability is achieved through its sophisticated tri-mode seeker technology.

As the sole supplier of a majority of the mechanical airframe parts and mechanical subassemblies for the StormBreaker®, Multicut is responsible for manufacturing 26 distinct parts and subassemblies. This encompasses over 156,000 individual components delivered to date. The complexity of these parts demands ultra-precision machining and meticulous attention to detail, ensuring each component meets the exacting standards required for optimal performance in mission-critical applications.

Demand and supply

Since 2018, we have successfully delivered more than 6,000 StormBreaker® systems and have recently been awarded the Lot 10 contract, extending production through the end of calendar year 2025.

Our scalable manufacturing setup is specifically designed to accommodate the fluctuating demands, characteristic of the defense industry. This flexibility enables us to efficiently manage varying production volumes without compromising on quality or delivery schedules.

Raytheon expressed a desire to more than double its delivery rate and needed a supplier with a scalable manufacturing setup that could meet increasing demands and volumes. Multicut was able to accommodate this desire and improve producibility through the process automation and expertise we employ in our efficient, cutting-edge manufacturing setup, M·Sys™.

At Multicut, we invest resources to fully understand the design requirements of our customers' metal components. We always strive to offer the best value to our customers. With our innovative manufacturing techniques, we have highly reduced variability in the product outcome.

A scalable manufacturing setup and technical skills

Our state-of-the-art manufacturing facilities are equipped with advanced automation technologies, allowing for rapid production ramp-up and cost-effective scalability. By designing parts with future scalability and cost-efficiency in mind, we have achieved cost savings exceeding 30% for the StormBreaker® program.

Our expertise in working with exotic materials and complex geometries positions us as a trusted partner in delivering components that meet the rigorous demands of modern defense systems.

Designed for precision strikes in the most challenging conditions, the StormBreaker® smart weapon is a guided, gliding munition equipped with a state-of-the-art tri-mode seeker. This advanced targeting system enables it to track and engage moving targets with accuracy, even in low-visibility environments.
