A dive into Greentech

A dive into Greentech

What do the ancient Greeks have in common with something as modern as green technology? Well ... Not much. But they had the same concern as we have today. Concerns about how humans and the environment affect each other. This blog is about why Greentech is not just a trend or the new buzzword, but a mindset that is important in terms of how companies in the future should incorporate both technology and the environment in their DNA.

Greentech - also called Envirotech - contains two words that do not necessarily go hand in hand. “Green” and “Tech” are often associated with two different things, namely: green environment and black industry. That is exactly why it becomes interesting when you combine the two things: Technology needs a greener approach, and a greener approach needs technology. So, let’s dive into Greentech.

If we go back almost 2500 years, Hippocrates was the first to recognize that poor environmental conditions could result in negative health consequences for human populations. Though some might argue that would be taking the history lesson a notch too far back in time, this is supposedly the first record of the concern for human and environmental impact.

Let us hop on the time machine and travel to fairly modern times. We know for a fact that technology, for decades, has caused severe damage to the environment, but paradoxically it is also technology -or rather GREEN technology - that is the solution. Our understanding of past and present becomes more comprehensive when climate and technology are seen as being interdependent rather than opposites. If we are to prepare for the future, we must combine both the environment and technology to a greater extent.

Why Greentech is not just a trend

The history lesson is over. Instead, let's talk about what "Greentech" comprises. Greentech aims to control global warming and reduce the greenhouse effect. Alternative energy will ensure that fossil fuels are not depleted, greenhouse gas emissions will decrease, and global warming will slow down. And if there's a will -there's a way. This is why many companies are now transitioning towards Greentech, to help protect the environment from harmful impacts. And because protecting our world has become important, green technology is certainly far more than a trend that will soon pass.

Choose suppliers that grow with your Greentech ambitions

In green technology, new technologies emerge all the time, changing our world one industry at a time. Back in the seventies, wind energy was a brand-new technology with a need for components that had never been made before -such as wings, nacelles, and all the hundreds of other parts that make up a wind turbine. All of this was initially invented in small machine shops, but as the industry grew to a global mega-business, production had to be ramped up along with it.

The same is true for today's emerging green technologies whether it be wave energy, energy storage, agricultural innovations, new and greener engines for ships and aircraft, and so forth. When new technologies are being developed, individual machined parts are often made to specs in very small quantities. Once the technology matures, partners who can grow with the production are needed - sometimes, ramp-up can be a matter of going from a production of a few dozen identical components to serial production of thousands of components in a very short space of time.

This has always been one of Multicut's core skills: Scalability of production of machined components with a high degree of repeatability and complexity.

Green growing

Greentech is constantly moving, and your idea could be the next thing that changes the industry. Be prepared for the success of your product and think ahead when choosing your supplier. A good idea with a small production can quickly need a ramp-up challenging your production capacity. Choose a supplier who is ready and able to meet a sudden increase in production needs.

Greentech is often characterized by having a need of components with fine tolerances that have never been made before. At Multicut, we are experts in helping you optimize the components in terms of ease of manufacturing. We do this by applying our profound knowledge of the design of fixtures and tools that reduce the machining time to an absolute minimum. Our production capacity is specifically designed to grow with your needs - quickly. When you partner with us, you will know what it means to have a supplier with the will and the power to invest in growth.
